11-08-2008 – Slug
Last night I went to the Grenada in Lawrence to see Atmosphere, one of the greatest Midwest hip hop acts of all time and probably my favorite crew. I got there and took two pictures of the opening act to get my camera ‘locked in’ on the light and the venue. I was promptly whisked outside by three bouncers, the lead knucklehead of them and I had the following conversation:
“You cant take pictures in here with that camera.”
“Why, are you afraid it will steal part of your soul, because that’s really just an urban myth from the early 1800s”
“No, it’s too big and nice.”
“Are you being serious?”
“Yes, if you had a small ‘normal’ camera then you could use it, but that camera takes too good of pictures.”
“Well, I’m here taking pictures for a newspaper.” I lied.
“There are only two press passes here, and you dont have one.”
“Dude, there are people out here videotaping this shit for YouTube and you’re telling me I cant take pictures?!”
“Sorry bro, but I will kick you out if I see that camera again.”
“Ok, but you’re an asshole ‘bro’. Good day.”
I still managed to sneak about three pictures later when no one was looking and this is the ‘most in focus’. About 90% of the lighting was provided by all the cell phones and digital cameras you can see in the crowd.
Sorry Slug, it’s because I like you guys. Screw the Grenada.
Also, Mac Lethal is the freestyle master of the city.
